8-8-08 and the Lake

We loved watching the olympics this year. It was the best olympics we have ever seen. It was amazing to see Michael Phelps win all of his gold medals, Usain Bolt speed through his races with attitude, the Redeem Basketball team, the women's and men's volleyball, gymnastics, etc. We stayed up way too late every night for the whole two weeks. We cheered and cried, and even woke up Luke once yelling for Phelps to win! The opening ceremonies were so remarkable and memorable, no one will ever be able to top that (wink, wink, London should not even try). It was a memorable time, but we are glad to get back to a normal sleep schedule now that it's over.

We also went down to my parent's lake house at Smith Mountain Lake for a few days during the olympics. It was great spending time with my parents, Aunt Patty, cousins Megan and Heather, and little Kaleb. Grandma Dougherty was even there for a few days! We went up on Saturday morning, and got settled and tested out the water. The lake was extremely low, so no jumping off the party deck this time. Sunday was church, then relaxing with everyone and watching the olympics. Monday was full play time! We went out on the wave runner, waterskiied behind the boat and went swimming across to the other side of the cove. Tuesday was more play and relaxing. The weather was just perfect and it was a perfect end to the summer.

Luke loved the water. He had life jacket and so we went swimming by the dock. However, it was tricky getting him into the lake, since the water was so low (even below the last rung on the ladder). Mike was in the water and I lowered Luke down. The very last few inches I just held on to the handle of his jacket down to Mike! He wasn't so sure about the whole thing at first, but he soon relaxed and had a lot of fun. He loved sitting in a raft with us in the water and playing peek-a-boo when we went in and out of the water by him. He also had a good time playing with Kaleb and pushing the cooler around the floor.
