Luke is one years old! He is now a little over 30 inches and 24 lbs. He has taken a few steps when we practice with him. He loves to eat, especially fruit. He says ball, achoo, mama, dada, dat(that) and a bunch of other things, but we just don't understand yet. He's actually quite a talker, keeping up a pretty constant chatter all day. He would go to the park and swing all day if we let him. It's amazing to see how much he has changed and learned over the past year...and how much we have learned, too! Who knew that the most fun you could have is rolling a ball (ba..ba...) back and forth with your son? Who knew that anyone could get so messy from head to toe while eating a banana? Who knew that the funniest sight was a baby dancing to ABC or any music that comes on? Who knew that taking a few steps would be such a major acomplishment? Who knew that standing side-by-side staring at your sleeping baby would be such a spiritual moment? It has been a great year and we can't wait to see what the next year brings!
Luke dragged the radio into the hallway and started dancing!
We had a "simple family get together" on Saturday. We only invited family and close friends that lived nearby and only about half of them could come...so we only had about 30 people!
I made a couple of cakes and Mike's cousin also made one. The theme was sports and balls, since that is Luke's favorite toy (any ball or anything that can be rolled or thrown like a ball...he has a pretty good arm!).
Of course, we had the traditional lick the batter spoon while I was making the cake and then having the first piece of cake pictures.
We were so happy that so many people could come and enjoy this special birthday with Luke. We are especially grateful to all of our friends and family who have played such big roles in helping us raise our son.

Happy birthday, Luke! Okay, I can't believe it's been a year already. He was so tiny when we saw him last year at our house. He is a cutie and I'm glad you've loved the first year.
It's great to see Luke growing and enjoying life. Those are great photos and videos! We look forward to seeing Luke and VA play together.
Happy Birthday! (....a little late)
